The Marsh on Screen film project

fifth-continent-on-film

Capturing the magic of the Marsh on Film, this project offered the opportunity for people to develop film making skills by getting involved in producing a range of new mini documentaries and creative films. The Landscape, heritage and culture of Romney Marsh will be the focus, enabling communities and individuals to rediscover the beauty and history of the area they live in.

Over 40 short films were created about the Romney Marsh. These included films recording the progress of the individual projects, some provided information on the landscape and others created artistic interpretations of life on the Marsh. An annual Film Festival also showcased entries, and a special ‘Day in the Life’ project meant that footage is available on many residents and their work, on the Marsh

72 HOUR FILM CHALLANGE

Residents in and around the Romney Marsh area were challenged to enter the free ‘72 Hour Whitsun Bank Holiday Film Challenge’. We were looking for stories real or created about the Romney Marsh area and shot in the Romney Marsh. There was good interest in the event resulting in four groups entering the challenge, each producing a short film clip which had to include a set phrase that had to be included in the content. The winning clip was called The Marsh News. Click the link below to view the winning clip.

All film clips will be published on the website.

Fifth Continent on Film contributes to Rediscover project theme.

There were  lots of opportunities to get involved, no experience in Film making was needed and many volunteers got involved with editing their own films as well.

FILM MAKING WORKSHOPS

During 2018 and 2019 the Screen South team held a series of workshops, offering opportunities to make films across the Marsh.

Lockdown prevented face to face workshops from being held but online support still continued with a 2020 year long calendar being produced. Visit the Fifth Continent youtube channel to see the short clips made by members of the Old School In New Romney.

Visit the volunteering page to find out more about getting involved with Fifth Continent projects.
