The Creativity Programme provided grants to organisations to develop new and innovate ways to engage audiences, particularly young people in the community. Mini projects were delivered and encourage people to discover and engage with their natural landscape.
Projects that received grant funding included The Sculpt the World, a project delivered through the JAM festival in 2019 and took place on Dymchurch beach, a series of wildlife in action workshops delivered by Teach Me and Film Masterclass workshops. Each project that was supported through this grants programme helped participants to explore the Wildlife and Heritage of Romney Marsh in new and creative ways.

Lantern parade
The Light Up New Romney team delivered two workshops for the community to make and decorate their own lanterns. A range of groups took part in the evening parade through New Romney town on 13 December, which ended in a gathering at St Nicolas Church. Amongst the willow lanterns, the RHDR made a train, Lydd Explorers (supported by Rowan from the Kent Wildlife Trust Down to Earth project) had made a beautiful butterfly and there were even two Romney sheep.
Light Up New Romney
Light Up New Romney will be supported by a Vital Creative Community Engagement grant. Community groups will be invited to make lanterns out of willow at workshops and the parade will take place in New Romney town on Friday 13 Dec. An exciting way to engage communities in wildlife and heritage.
Engaging communities in art
The two grants awarded to JAM resulted in two great community engagement projects – click on the link to see the Beach art: https://www.jamconcert.org/sculpt-the-world-with-jam/ The second project, which was a photography course held at the Romney Resource Centre, produced some great images which will be available to view at Romney Marsh Visitor Centre during the summer.
Two grants awarded from the Vital Creative Community Engagement Programme
Two grants have been awarded from the Vital Creative Community Engagement programme to two of the JAM festival community activities – Natural Beach Art project (taking place in Dymchurch in July) and a photography project being delivered at the Romney Resource Centre by Susan Pilcher.
